Pssst - where Whiplash is up to

May 3rd, 2008 by Colleen

Whiplash has gone to the printer.

The launch is all planned for the 5th June - invitations will be sent out in a week or two, can’t do this too early. Watch this space if you aren’t on the mailing list of Modjaji Books.

Divine wine has been secured.

There will be belly dancing. It does have something to do with the book.

The launch will be at the Gaslight Cafe - where Tracey wrote quite a bit of the book. It’s an authentic site - old Muizenberg - rather than gentrified Muizenberg - right in a prime spot on the Beach Front. Up in Surfers’ Corner.

Whew!

Doing this book has been a pure Modjaji experience, full of friendship, co-operation, collaboration, generosity, fabulosity, synchronicity, working with wonderful people (mostly women) - in the editing, rewriting, glossary, book design, cover art, hand lettering, proof-reading, PR, marketing. Huge thanks to … Hannah Morris, Natascha Griessel, Maire Fisher, Janey Moore, Tracey herself, Ron Irwin, Joanne Fedler, Beryl Eichenberger, Anne Schuster, Colleen Crawford Cousins, Francios Loots. Not necessarily in that order.

Also - Whiplash is what made me realise that Modjaji had bigger ambitions for herself than to be a small poetry press. She grabbed me by the hand thrust this book into my other hand and had me running breathlessly trying to keep up with her.

I love the book and I hope like hell that you all will too.
